Relationships Education
Relationships education at Somers Park Primary School fulfils the statutory guidance as set out by the DFE: Relationships education (Primary) - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
The focus of relationships education in our school is about teaching the fundamental building blocks and characteristics of positive relationships, with particular reference to friendships, family relationships, and relationships with other children and with adults.
This starts with pupils being taught about what a relationship is, what friendship is, what family means and who the people are who can support them. From the beginning of primary school, building on early education, pupils should be taught how to take turns, how to treat each other with kindness, consideration and respect, the importance of honesty and truthfulness, permission seeking and giving, and the concept of personal privacy.
We use the program as set out in the Jigsaw RSE scheme of work, but this year are using the resources from KAPOW for sex education in Year 5 and 6, as we make adjustments to our curriculum.
For parents of children in Year 5 and 6, an information session for parents is provided, enabling parents to view the resources their children will be accessing when learning about RSE. This takes place towards the start of the Summer Term. The slides from this meeting can be found below.
If you have any questions about Relationships Education, the co-ordinator is Mrs Marshall who can be contacted through the school office.
