Year 5 Team
Homework Expectations
Maths
Children should practise their time tables frequently at home. There will be a times tables test every Friday.
Spellings
Spellings are given out on Fridays and some of these are tested the following Friday using dictation. There will be no spelling mark sent home. Spellings are stuck into an A4 blue book that the children will bring home which needs to be in school every Friday.
Reading
Children are provided with Reading Records and are expected to read 5 times per week for around 20 minutes a time. This will help them to develop their vocabulary and understanding of how to write and communicate well. It will also help them to develop strong comprehension and understanding, while hopefully developing a love of English. Reading records should be handed in every Monday so that we can monitor children’s reading at home.
PE Sessions
This takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Each class will be outdoor for half a term and then indoor for the other. PE kit should be in school every day, especially trainers, as PE session times can change at short notice. Every Friday the children will go swimming until the end of the Autumn term.
The children will undertake a run on the Daily Mile track on two afternoons a week on days when the classes do not have PE. Children therefore need trainers in school every day.
